2011 FAQs for ESE Karaoke Fundraiser
1. What is the purpose of the 2011 Karaoke Fundraiser?
The purpose of the fundraiser is to accept donations for the ESE annual scholarship. The ESE scholarship targets poor and academically talented ongoing and entering university students in all regions of Vietnam. To ensure the validity of their financial claims we request paperwork and we also have staff in Vietnamese confirm their financial status through personal visitation and interviews. Some previous scholarship awardees were from Ha Noi, Da Nang, Saigon, and Can Tho. All donations received will be given out in the same year and we NEVER keep money for the upcoming year. 2. How long will the Karaoke Fundraiser last?
The Karaoke Fundraiser officially starts at 8:00 AM on Saturday, 9/07/2011 (VN)), 6:00 PM (PST), 9:00 PM (EST) on Friday, 8/07/2011 (USA) and ends at 12:00 AM on Sunday, 11/07/2011 (VN). However, we may start earlier and end later since our goal is to raise as much fund as possible to help as many Vietnamese students as possible.
3. I want to help. What can I do?
You can help in many different ways:
a) You may donate to the Scholarship fund. Please see #4. For more information about the scholarship, please visit http://tienganh.net/showthread.php?t=2553
b) You may also help by spreading the word about the scholarship. If 100 people donate $10 each and pass our information onto 10 other people who donate $10 each, then we will raise $11,000. For the exponential power to take effect, please let at least 10 people know about the scholarship.
c) During the Karaoke Fundraiser, you may provide these links to individuals or in the room when the time is appropriate.

4. How do I donate?
Via Paypal:
You may donate via Paypal using a credit card or directly transfer fund from your bank account. You can go to www.paypal.com and make a donation to ESE.Scholarship@gmail.com.
NOTE: If you mark “OTHER" when Paypal asks you for the reason why you are sending the money, then no fee will be charged for the transaction. Also, please include your nick on Paltalk and/or in the ESE forum in the “Message” box on the Paypal’s website when you donate.
Via Mail:
1. Attach a note to inform us of who you are. Please use your nick on Paltalk and/or in the ESE forum. Please include your email address so that our treasurer can send you a receipt upon receiving your donation.
2. If you wish to be anonymous, please state that in your note.

5. If I want to contribute after the Karaoke Fundraiser, whom should I contact?
Donations are accepted all year long. Please see #4. You may also visit http://eseonline.net/scholarship.php for additional details.
6) I would like to sing during the Karaoke Fundraiser. What should I do?
If you would like to sing, you would have to raise your hand to be in the singing queue, donate, and let the organizer know that you have donated. (The organizer will contact you.) When it is your turn, the emcee will announce your nick and you will share with us your beautiful voice.
The suggested donation amount is $5 per song for singers in the North America such as the U.S. and Canada and $2 per song for singers in Vietnam, European countries, Australia, or other countries. However, you are more than welcome to donate more as our goal is to generate as much fund as possible for the ESE Scholarship Fund.
7a) I would like to donate for someone else to sing during the Karaoke Fundraiser. What should I do?
You would have to raise your hand to be in the singing queue, donate, and let the organizer know that you have donated. (The organizer will contact you.) The emcee will invite the person you have requested to sing. (The person you are requesting to sing may raise his/her hand instead of you.)
7b) I have a beautiful singing voice that I would like to share with the room to generate some donations, but I do not have the money to donate to the ESE Scholarship Fund. What should I do?
If you have a beautiful voice and would like to contribute, you may contact the people on your friend list to see if anyone would like to sponsor you. If that doesn’t work, you may want to see if you can get someone in the room to sponsor you. With your beautiful singing voice, we are sure that you can get at least one person to sponsor you.

8b) What is the role of the designated singers?
Designated singers are people who were invited from other karaoke rooms to help liven up the room and to attract the listeners and generous sponsors to donate to the ESE Annual Scholarship fund. They are sponsored by m_la_m and OoSoOSwtJeNnA to sing. If you like their singing, you may request for them to sing by donating to the scholarship fund.
8c) How do I become a designated singer?
As stated above, designated singers are invited and sponsored by m_la_m and OoSoOSwtJeNnA to sing. They do not have any special privileges as they will have to raise their hand to be able to sing like anyone else. Since this is a Karaoke Fundraiser, any song that will be sung will generate at least $2, depending on the location of the singer, whether it is from the designated singers or any other participant in the room. You do not need to be on the designated singers list to be able to sing. If you would like to sing during the Karaoke Fundraiser, please see #6 for more information.
