    American Pronuciation Rules of Stress

    Rule 1 : Nouns and Adjectives of 2 syllables – The stress is on the first syllable. - Remember( Exceptions : machine , event , frontier )

    Rule 2 : Verb of 2 syllables – The stress is on the second syllable.

    Rule 3 : Werb of 2 syllables ending with a suffix ( OW ,EN ,Y , EL , ER , ISH ) – The stress is on the first syllable .

    Rule 4 : Words of three or more syllables- Usually put stress is on the third syllable , counting backwards. - Note : - Oxidize , Memorize , Standardize , Dramatize , Organize , each has the main stress on “ IZE” and a secondary stress on the first syllable ( Me , Stand , Dra ,Or ) -For the purpose of this rule , do not count “ ING , ED and LY as syllables ; also , count “ ARY” as 1 syllable . Also see the rule on prefixes and suffixes. ( ARY is count as 1 syllable )

    Rule 5: Put the stress before A Consonant followed by an I and a vowel – CiV.

    Rule 6: Put the stress before “ IC”. - Exceptions : Rhetoric , Lunatic , Catholic , Arithmetic , Politics .

    Rule 7: ADE , OO , OON , EE , EEN , EER , ESE , ISE , IZE , the stress is put on these syllable. - Exceptions : Coffee , Pedigree , Marmalade.

    Rule 8 : Prefixes and Suffixes are usually not stress.
    - For example :
    - Prefix AD ( that changes to AD , AF , AP , AS , AT , etc…
    -Prefix COM ( COL , CON )
    - Prefix EX - Prefix IN ( IM , IL , IR )
    - Prefix RE - Prefix UN
    - Suffixes MENT , ER , ING , ED
    - Suffixes AL , ANCE , ANT



    The correct sentence and The Verb Functions ( VF)

    • VF1 – Intransitive Verbs : S + V
    • VF2 ­– Transitive Verbs : S + V + DO
    • VF3 – Linking Verbs : S + V + SC ( Complement to the Subject)
    • VF4S + V + DO + IO
    • VF5 S + V + BI ( bare infinitive) ( use with four verbs : Make , Let , Help , Have )
    • VF6S + V + DO + PR.P ( present participle = V+ ING ( six verbs : Catch , Find ,Keep , Leave , Set , Start )
    • VF7S + V + DO + BI/ PR.P ( Look at , See , Watch ,Notice , Observe , Listen to , Hear , Smell , Feel )
    • VF8 S + V + DO + ADJ .( or Past Participle ) ( When the object doesn’t do the action).
    • VF9S + V + DO + OC ( Object Complement)
    ( Call , Make , Appoint , Assign , Consider , Vote , Elect , Choose , Designate ) (You can also use “ as “ . “ to be “ or “ for” between the DO and OC )
    • VF10aS + V + G . ( Gerund V + ING ) or Passive gerund ( BEING + PP )
    • VF10b - S + V + GERUNDS ( other expressions + gerunds )
    • VF11a S + V + TO + VF
    • VF11bS + V + TO BE + PP
    • VF11c S + V ( Need , Want , Desire , Merit , Be worth ) + Gerund
    • VF12a - S + V + TO ( or in order to ) ( purpose )
    • VF12bS + VF , VF and VF ( Consecutive actions )
    • VF12c S + VF , PR . P ( Simultaneous actions ).
    • VF13S + Modal + VF.

    LC rat vui khi thay' em share tai lieu nay, vi co nghia rang la em rat ngoan va cha(m chi?. Ngoa`i nhung cai gi minh hoc trong room, neu' minh la` tha`nh vien moi' va chua duoc hoc nhung bai cu? thi minh co the tim hieu the^m trong google de^u co'. Ca'c em co^' ga('ng nhu va^y`LC va cac thay co cam thay' an ui~ va` vui la'm.

    Chuc cac' em ngay` ca`ng tie'n bo^. ho*n va so'm ngay do^~ da.t co^ng danh.
