COMMAS IN COMPOUND AND COMPLEX SENTENCES



Each of the following compound sentences needs a comma. Insert a comma in the correct place.







1. Arliss put a baby copperhead snake into his pocket but it didn’t bite him.



2. The catfish tried to swim away but Old Yeller caught him.



3. Papa could have split logs until after sundown but Travis tired out before that.



4. The she-bear ran fast but Old Yeller knocked her over before she reached Arliss and the cub.



5. The she-bear heard the cries of her cub and she was coming to save him.



6. From the time Arliss was big enough to leave the cabin he tried to catch every living thing he could.



7. If Mama wanted Arliss to kill snakes before stuffing them into his pockets he’d kill them.



8. When Arliss got finned by the catfish his hand swelled and got mighty sore.



9. Travis had been down at the creek splitting rails since dinner working in a stand of post oaks.



10. Even though Arliss was frightened he didn’t let go of the bear cub.
