According to the Phonics rules of short vowels, can you tell me the four rules/patterns to identify when a word contain a short vowel sound? In addition, please give at least 3 words example for each rule.

Pronunciation: What is an r-controlled vowel (2pts.)? For 3pts. What major characteristics about the main character Jing-Mei, a daughter to a Chinese immigrant mother, are revealed in the short story Two Kinds by Amy Tan?



Describe the relationship between Jing-Mei and her mother. Why does Jing-Mei resist efforts by her mother to develop her talents in order to become a child prodigy? Please use the text to support your argument.



Why do you think the mother is so forceful and adamant in developing Jing-Mei’s talent? Use the text to support your argument.
