Level: Good beginner/Intermediate.
A simple activity which at first sight looks like a grammar-type exercise. However, the students must complete each unfinished phrase truthfully. The example given, for instance, can have many different endings, according to each person's situation.
Most importantly, I would advise you to start this activity in silence, with each student writing down his or her own completion. This guarantees that people will not be stuck for words, which usually happens if you present somebody with a half-finished sentence and ask for an immediate verbal reaction. I have found that, if you give students time to think, they will produce better sentences. The bonus here is that if, for example, you have a group of seven, each student will probably come up with a different finish. This will definitely trigger interest on the part of the other students, and reduce tension. Moreover, it is the student who gets to create something. The teacher merely oversees, and hence does not dominate the class.
Example:
My car ...
My car broke down two months ago while I was coming home from work.
My car cost a lot but I don't like it anymore.
Now you try it.
My best friend ...
Last night ...
I have never ...
The third world ...
Politicians ...
Parents ...
I once dreamt that ...
Christmas ...
I get really angry when ...
Some people ...
Going on holiday ...
Having my hair cut ...
Making my bed ...
Talking to a drunk ...
Hippies ...
A millionaire ...
When it rains, I ...
Vegetarians ...
If any of the sentences should provoke debate, let it develop. :binhsua_44:

My best friend is coming back this weekend for a surprised party. Last night I couldn't sleep and thus stayed up talking to an online friend. I have never realized how much we have in common; we kept finishing each other's sentences. The third world is getting poorer with the rise of corruptions growing from within a country's government. Politicians keep on promising that they'll change and reform but all I could see are all empty promises. Parents have less and less communication with their children along with the invasion of the World wide web. I once dreamt that my knight of shining armor would come sweeping me away from my feet. He did come, or so I thought, knocked me off of my feet, and walked away. Christmas is just another excuse for people to spend money and pig out. I get really angry when I see how people could be so selfish and greedy. Some people were born to be selfish and greedy so that people like me could feel so good about ourselves, and I am thankful for that. Going on holiday is an unaccomplished goal on my list every year. Having my hair cut always make me feel like a brand new person; it's like cutting away all of my troubles and connections to the unpleasant past to start everything all over again. Making my bed is something I rarely do because I usually sleep very still. Talking to a drunk always gets me to see the person better than when he is sober. Hippies or being a Hippy is something I've always wanted to do but have never let myself loosened enough to be one. A millionaire will not be a happy person for he/she would have to worry keeping that status afloat. When it rains, I love listening to the raindrops pitty-patting on the window; it is so soothing and relaxing. Vegetarians are vegetable-killers.

I received a messenger of my best friend this morning, she said: "I saw a very big snake in my room, last night. I wear I have never seen such a big snake in the world. The Snake stood in his feet ( maybe his tail ) and he could speak (or voice was uttered ) English. He said he was from The Third World. You know, where is the third world? Heaven, Hell or the World of Souls which we just watched on TV last month? I was scare of him. I told this story to my father, and he didn't believe in my story. Ah, I think politicians such as my daddy, seldom believe in spirits, ghosts, or something from the third world? How about you, my gal? My parents asked me what did I do when I saw the Snake - kept my tongue in the throat and let the blanket covered from head to toes?
Now I feel it seem a wonderful dream. I once dreamed that I had met a abnormal thing, I sucked the power from it. I became a super girl. It was a wonderful dream in Christmas. And I got really angry when my mom woke me up without returning my power again.
But the Snake yesterday I saw was true. He said he will give me a task. To protect the Jewel of four Souls. Gosh, I didn't believe it. I had the jewel- the best power in my body. You Snake let me to the third world, I met some people there. They were friendly and good. But I just stayed a little bit and returned my house when dawn.I didn't tell this to my parent.
You know, going on holiday with my family, I feel boring, I will stay at home during the holidays and go to the third world every night with the Snake. Now, I take exercises everyday because maybe I will fight with some bad guys to protect the jewel. Having my hair cut make me like a strong boy.
Ah, one of the citizen in the third world, he was drunk when I saw him. so funny. Taking with a drunk, he talked non-stop about the sun, moon and land. The sun was blue, the moon was yellow and the land was square. The square would contract as a circle at night because he had seen water flow very fast ahead ( hehe, we call it tide) , but I thought he was an intelligent guy. I like him. I only saw some hippies there too, they looked very happy and comfortable. Some of them were millionaire. Hehehe, but a millionaire in the third world still poorer than me. I think so because money there was too low. I remember the sky there, almost they not blue as here. Liked more light green, an excellent color. When it rained, wow, a lot of things they called "seikim" fall down with water drops. When "seikim" hit the land, the land turned green, but on the vegetables, "seikim" turned white and disappeared into the vegetables. They said seikim made vegetable grown and fresh. It was too wonderful. I think you will like the world I am telling. And the people there, they didn't eat animals. They only ate vegetable, what will we call them? Vegetarians?
Yeah, I love this story. My gal, I have a new mystery, and I am the person who protect the Jewel of four souls with people in a third world.
