ESE Code of Conduct
First of all, we would like to express our appreciation to everyone for your dedication in time and talents, and your devotion to helping others. We are all here because we have one common goal: to help other Vietnamese in improving their English language skills. In order to achieve this goal, we must stress the importance of having a standardized structure and a mutual mindset.
This list was not designed to be harsh or demanding. Its sole purpose is to maintain the well-rounded and organized structure of this room. This is of the utmost importance due to our need to exhibit a team that is united, organized, and wholesome.

Your continual supports to our Ops & Instructors are greatly appreciated.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Clarification of terms used:
Staff – Instructors, Operators (OPS) and the administrators. For updated names please refer to link: http://tienganh.net/showthread.php?p=3716)
Instructors – staff members who are scheduled to lead sessions during the assigned time. Substitute instructors are held to the same standard and responsibilities as that of the regular instructor during those hours. Readings and room’s rules remain the same. Note: Time listed in the schedule is Vietnam time.
OPs – staff members are nicks with "@" when signed into ESE room as an administrators. These nicks help keep room with a comfortable environment and to prevent disturbances from nicks known as “Khủng Bố” (or trouble makers)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Code of Conduct for All:
• Respect the primary goal of ESE: to improve the students’ English language skills.
• No WEBCAM is permitted while a class is in session unless used by the active instructor to aid in the lesson. WEBCAM during entertainment hours must be tasteful. Individuals must be fully clothed.
• Show respect to all other participants of the room at all times.
• The language used, both verbal and written, must not contain any reference, either explicitly or subtly or with an overtone, of an offensive nature. This includes references of a sexual or political nature, racial or religious slurs, or of any other disrespectful nature.
• Nicks must follow the same guidelines as for language used: not sexual, nor derogatory in a religious, political, racial or any other manner.
• These offensive, as well as politically related nicks, will be advised that they are not acceptable and then bounced if necessary.
• The use of English for all written and verbal communication by everyone at all times is encouraged. The staff must set a good example.
• Chatting (text) must be appropriate for the current session.
Learning hours:
- Constructive criticisms and positive feed backs must be done in a respectful manner.
- Off topic chats must be kept to minimum.
- Greetings and positive encouragements are acceptable.
- Corrections and comments related to the actual readings should be reserved for the instructor or substitute in charge.
- Questions for instructors are encouraged and challenges to the instructor should be made only in the case of a major errors and then only once if the question(s) was answered.
- Continuing questions on the same subject and/or different resolutions to a challenge should be handled in private and after class.
Trivia/Entertainment:
Social chatting is encouraged as long as it is not sexual, racial, or otherwise disrespectful. Karaoke singing during free time must be kept to a minimum.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Code of Conduct for Staff:
• There should be no challenges / disagreements between staff members in public. Differences in opinions and/or experiences on any issues should be settled in private.
• Do not challenge other ops’ or instructors’ decision of muting and bouncing in public; rather, ask in pm if you have any concerns or want clarifications.
• Removing mutes or bounces should only be left to the original muter or bouncer. Exceptions to this will occur, but please use your utmost discretion.
• The use of verbal or text warnings is the preferred means of limiting disruptions. Only mute or bounce chatters when absolutely necessary to maintain order.
• The scheduled instructor or OP (or the delegated replacement) has final responsibility for the room.
• Sign in as OP before starting your lessons. It will not only give you full control of your class, but it will also signify to others you are the one in charge.
• All staff, when signed in with their staff nick, must set a good example even when not in official capacity.
• Nicks that do not have @ are considered chatters or students. When OPs or Instructors or Administrators used a different nick when not teaching, his/her actions are still held to the same higher standards. Accountablility remains the same.
• Support other staff members with consideration as you would prefer the same kind of support.
• Do NOT mute yourself when you step away. Muting staff members should only be used to control Trivia or Music Bot. More active "@" will deter terrorists.
Staff Guidelines
• All staff nicks must be registered as such in a publicly accessible place (http://tienganh.net/showthread.php?p=3716)
• PM messages and communications between instructors/Ops/Admins must be open between staff members.
• Conflicts between staff members should be resolved between the two parties directly involved. When this can not happen and a third party is required to “break a tie” only then administrators should be involved to find a final compromise that will bring both parties to an agreement. The goal is to keep the team strong without unnecessary conflicts.
• When room is not scheduled for learning sessions and time allowed for team building activities, staff members are encouraged to step up and help the students.
• Disparaging remarks should be avoided. Answer to specific question raised by the student when necessary to keep the discussion on course. However, instructors should not discuss in details or elaborate on sensitive subjects that can lead to an unruly session.
